In January 2015, The Canal & River Trust in conjunction with The Enviroment Agency removed many fish from the Kilby Bridge section of the GUC. The exercise was necessary to safe-guard the lives of fish from an upstream pollution near Saddington tunnel. Thankfully the pollution and high levels of amonia never got as far down as Wigston A.S. controlled waters.
Whilst not all the fish were removed from the Kilby Bridge section, the society are pleased to report that they have agreement from the Canal & River Trust to commence a re-stocking programme for Kilby Bridge - we'll keep you posted on when this will take place.
Please note that no other stretches of the canal controlled by Wigston A.S. were affected by this pollution or indeed have had fish removed as a precautionary measure.
